Curious to learn what makes traditional Bordeaux wines so special?  Château Campillot, Cru Bourgeois, offers a chance to taste a wine made in the same manner as a Classified Growth but at a fraction of the price.  Jean-Dominique Videau, the manager of Château Branaire-Ducru, the famous classified growth in Saint-Julien, also manages Château Campillot.  The vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (48%), Merlot (48%), Petit Verdot (2%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).  The wine is made in small tanks to ensure that specific parcels of grapes shine through in the final blend.  The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for twelve months to allow for greater complexity.  On the nose the wine is wonderfully complex with aromas of black fruit, cinnamon, clove, dried violets, and a hint of tobacco.  Everything about the palate is balanced with medium body, fine tannins creating a linear structure, food friendly acidity, and a surprisingly long finish.  Experience the quality of a famous estate while paying a fraction of the price!

Food pairings include Hokkien mee, drunken chicken, smoked duck.
