G de Guiraud is the dry white wine made by the first Grand Cru Classé Sauternes estate, Château Guiraud. The property is certified organic and a pioneer of sustainable viticulture. In 2013 the blend is 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon. G de Guiraud is a stunning example of Sauternes properties, famous for sweet wines, making expressive dry white wines using similar techniques: grapes manually picked in successive trips only when the fruit is perfectly ripe, fermented in oak barrels previously used by Château Guiraud, and aged for 7 months in barrels with regular stirring of the lees. On the nose the wine has the complexity of a wine from Sauternes, with white blossoms, honey, hints of lemon and lychee, and minerality. On the palate the wine is beautifully lively with pure fruit and vivacious acidity. The finish is long and explodes with lemons and flowers. This captures the exciting innovative spirit of Bordeaux today. Best served chilled.
Food pairings include raw oysters, fish, smoked salmon, Gouda cheese, bak kut the, char kway teow, mee rebus, cream-based sauces, deep fried foods.
