S de Siran is a red wine made by Château Siran, a vineyard in the famous Margaux appellation. Recently Hubert de Bouard, of Château l'Angélus fame, has served as a wine consultant. Some parcels of grapes are blended into Château Siran, while other parcels are reserved for S de Siran. The selection is based upon the desired character of the two wines. Château Siran is a serious, concentrated wine. S de Siran is an open and approachable wine. The blend of S de Siran 2012 is 46% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc. Of particular note are the Petit Verdot vines as they add a profound character and beautiful structure to the wines. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months. On the nose the wine has appealing, fruity aromas of red cherry and strawberry with a hint of spice. On the palate the wine is a masterful balance of ripe red fruit, soft polished tannins, and juicy acidity. A wonderful introduction to the sophistication of the Margaux region.
Food pairings include sautéed beef, braised pork, Peking duck.
